Thank you. Contents of tarballs are absolutely identical and `tardiff` showed nothing. However binary comparison of tars revealed differences. It appears to me that order of files inside tar is different which points at the `sort` utility as culprit. According to [1] `sort` may produce different results depending on locale. Looks like I need to set LC_ALL for invocation of `sort`. This should be easy enough to fix...
