I haven't been working on gbirthday for a while, and all other devs have
left the boat, I'm afraid. They don't use it anymore, AFAIK, and I only
use the plain-text backend.

I guess we could remove evolution support (although this used to be the
core of the software back when gbirthday was created). Either completely
(code cleanup), or just as a quick and dirty fix by removing it from the
list in the GUI. Me way also have to add code to remove this from user
config file as well.

Before doing so, I'd like to understand why python-evolution disappeared
from Debian. I suppose it is not just a rename, but some code that is no
longer maintained.

Is this only Debian related, or common to all distros? Are there distros
where the link to evolution works, in which case it would be a pity to
remove it from gbirthday?

You may want to open an issue upstream on SF so that other devs are
notified.
