Hrm. So it's not a general issue with the virtualization but maybe a
permission issue.

Can you try running

  strace -f screen

or if the output is too long, run

  strace -f -o /tmp/screen.strace screen

and either send it to the bug report (or to me personally if you don't
want to have the data public)?

That may give a hint what causes the issue.
