A different patch that should be portable would be to pipe yes into the lvcreate, as in: yes | lvcreate ..... Still kinda kludgy - should work, but haven't tried it. Moreover, I'm changing my opinion on the LVM "feature" of asking to wipe a FS signature on a new LV. I can't yet come up with a reason where I would like that.
