Package: syslinux Version: 3:6.03~pre1+dfsg-1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream, fixed-upstream
Hi Daniel, syslinux from experimental has problems booting in older versions of VirtualBox, such as the one shipped in Wheezy (4.1.18-dfsg-2+deb7u3). OTOH, syslinux 4.x boots the same ISO image just fine, regardless of the VirtualBox version; and syslinux from experimental boots fine in VirtualBox from wheezy-backports (4.3.10-dfsg-1~bpo70+1). According to upstream, this is not limited to VirtualBox, and also affects QEMU 0.11.1. It is reported to have been fixed in syslinux 6.03-pre5: http://bugzilla.syslinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45 http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2014-April/021968.html http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2014-March/021782.html => please update syslinux in experimental to 6.03-pre5 or later. If there are good reasons not to do so, I'd be curious to learn about it :) Thank you for maintaining syslinux in Debian. (Off-topic: as a bonus, 6.03-pre9 adds support for automatically passing FSUUID= to the kernel, which I'm willing to consider adding support for in live-boot, as Tails needs something like this to deal with newer USB sticks — most notably Sandisk — that have the removable flag off.)
