Carsten, many thanks for your support, I do feel that I tried my best.
I eventually felt driven to install Claws Mail having used icedove for quite some years, could it be five to ten? Claws has performed fine, no crashes no problems at all. of course this is only the second email, so.... I had removed .icedove a few times, and was at a loss what else to do. also reset smcFan, and a few other hardware type issues. of course it may be that no one else has this issue, but it seems unsatisfactory to just abandon. kind regards & thanks again!
