That's described on the wiki page. :) >>> migration > is responsible for moving threads between CPUs. > as nothing much is going on, it seems strange that > there are frequent short hangs when 99% CPU on top. No, you mean something like multi threading. The load balancing between the CPU cores is automatically done by the CPU (if the application is written for multi threading, that are all normal programs done). Take a look into the process list with htop for example, this has several options to display the current processes. >>> What happen if you do this with some other account (on another provider of >>> course!)? > > afaik I don't have access to another provider. Take a look for some free mail provider that supports IMAP secure and SMTP secure at least. Your ISP gives you "only" the way to the Internet, interesting that BT can't provide email by there self. > my ISP is BT business broadband and they are the mail provider and > they do use outlook. Before outlook.com arises Microsoft provided hotmail.com. This was ever only a web application, it was simply not usable with Thunderbird/Icedove or other mail clients. With this experience I would say, it isn't working better with outlook.com. If you don't care much about that your mails are visible for the provider you can take a look at Google Mail, GMX or Yahoo Mail for example. But there hundreds of free mail providers out there. Mostly the limit the amount of mails you can send or receive a day. But for testing it is o.k. to create a simple account on one of the providers. > my only other current option is a complete back-up and re-install!! That would be option B, maybe your system is a little bit miss configured, the fastest way to fix *can* be a complete reinstall. -- Regards Carsten -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
