Those issues are not related to each other. The lightdm issue is not about clobbering XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, but the XFCE maintainers needing to decide whether they want CK or logind and then planning the transition properly. The upstream discussion is related to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=729674 And yes, we should cherry-pick baae0358f349870544884e405e82e4be7d8add9f for that -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
