Does it still happen with 1.8.3? It might be related to accountservice, please try without. Also, did you change anything in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and /etc/lightdm/ligthdm-gtk-greeter.conf? Also, does reverting to 1.6 fix the problem?
