I upgraded my stable distribution (with wheezy-updates repository at the time). There was a conflict between xul-ext-adblock-plus and icedove and some of icedove's extensions. Since there is a dependency on the gnome meta package it meant that this has been uninstalled (or uninstall icedove etc.). This has as of yet caused no problems, but if I had run apt-get autoremove (which I would like to, to remove some other programs) it would mean that a lot of the gnome desktop is removed. The best quick solution would be to solve the conflict, but I also think that there is an issue with having this extension as a dependency on such an important package. I disagree with the original poster, I think most users benefit from and like having this pre-installed, particularly as on the first run of iceweasel it makes it clear that it is installed. However, might it be better to have it as "recommends" or a dependency on a different package. With reccomends, many people have apt-get configured (I think by default, to "consider recommended packages as dependencies"). This would also be a good compromise with the original reasoning for this bug request.
