That is a little exaggerated. See below.

| Hi.
|
| The current scenario with respect to r-cran-rcpparmadillo and regular
| armadillo is less than optimal, since the armadillo code is
| essentially duplicated. I would request that r-cran-rcpparmadillo use
| libarmadillo-dev, and we can coordinate the uploads to Debian using
| one of these approaches:
|
| 1. You can take up co-maintenance or even full maintenance of
| armadillo, so that it is easy for you to ensure that uploads get done.
|
| 2. You can inform me when you intend to upload r-cran-rcpparmadillo
| and find that armadillo is out of date. I am fairly responsive, so I
| can usually get back within a couple of days.
|
| Please let me know your opinion.

I really appreciate both your feedback, and your maintenance of Armadillo
within Debian.

As you know, I also understand how Debian works, and still chose to package
RcppArmadillo the way I did.

As an upstream package it

   a) does not run configure (or rather: cmake)

   b) does not link

>From R, we get all required tests, as well as linking against LAPACK and
BLAS.

RcppArmadillo really is just for R's use, and the cross-OS, cross-distro
consistence I have (as an author of RcppArmadillo) is more important than the
Debian purity here.

This is simply a different use case. Please try to just trust me on this
issue and accept my decision.

Thanks, Dirk
