I have prepared a new upstream release and did what you had suggested. I checked out 1553f86c9d54925ca4181924b57afd9f7fc84e53 from the 27th of March and tested the new version. I know it's a bit cheeky, but if time permits i'd be glad if you could sponsor the package at mentors.
