FWIW, qemu-kvm does not exist past wheezy, and this
bug will not be fixed in wheezy due to freeze.

Sure; however, I reported the bug against the version of the package I
had installed.

Ok. I mentioned this just so that you know.
For fun, all qemu-kvm bugs are now transferred to qemu package
(after introduction of qemu-kvm transitional package in qemu),

When I find a bug in a Debian package, I file it in Debian. If
necessary (when I get a response like this), I file it directly upstream
as well, but I find Debian's bug tracker far better than most upstreams,
and in any case it helps to know when the fix makes it into the Debian
package.

which bugs/features gets attention from the maintainer and which
are more difficult (or unimportant) and needs upstream cooperation.
You're a member of Debian Qemu project team, and I think you're
pretty much capable to fix or forward this bug upstream.

This my tone to you is exactly because you are a member of qemu
team and as such, can at least help with some things. It is not
just a "privilege", it also has some demand.

Thank you!
