Hi, there are related bugs about the issue of passing the metric setting down to dhcp-client which would be one possible fix of this regression:

There is even a patch http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=10;filename=ifupdown-metric.patch;att=1;bug=364581 but that was not commented on by the maintainers yet.
