You seem to be passing "Workdir: /var/www/mrtg". Your complaint seems to be centred around the issue that /var/www/mrtg/* does not contain the WorkDir does not exist, but this is the configuration file that will be created in slcigw1.cfg What WorkDir is getting set in those included config files? - Adam

Every included config file has /var/www/mrtg as its WorkDir. The Directory parameter makes each device end up in its own subdir.

My complaint is that MRTG is not doing anything - no logs, no images, no html, no errors in the output log. The /var/www/mrtg directory exists and has proper permissions, as do the subdirs for each device. Here's the first part of slcigw1.cfg, without the 'created by' header:

### Global Config Options

# for UNIX
# WorkDir: /home/http/mrtg

# for Debian
WorkDir: /var/www/mrtg

# or for NT
# WorkDir: c:\mrtgdata

### Global Defaults

# to get bits instead of bytes and graphs growing to the right
# Options[_]: growright, bits

EnableIPv6: no
WithPeak[_]: ymwd
WriteExpires: Yes
Options[_]: bits, growright, unknaszero
Workdir: /var/www/mrtg
Directory[_]: slcigw1
