retitle 287196 Help on search settings misleading severity 287196 wishlist > > How is it not an incremental search? >
I'm not sure I understand your question. 'incremental search' is what you get with Ctrl-S in Emacs. Cursor is repositioned with each stroke so you don't need to type the whole word before search begins. With a 'not incremental' search you need to end typing, and click 'find' button or something, to start search. When I read 'begin finding when you begin typing', I thought that checkbox in Edit->Preferences->Accessibility refered to toggling between both modes, not to the need or not of typing a "/" to begin searches. As I mentioned, the corresponding Help page did not help, saying it will find 'what you type as you type it', and *while you are finding* text, the Find Toolbar will display information about what you've found. No mention that the big difference between checking or unchecking this preference will toggle the need for a "/". Sorry if this is a naive request. I know enough English I guess, but I was confused anyway. Probably this wording would be enough (new sentence in brackets): When this preference is enabled, Firefox will find within the current web page what you type as you type it. <If it is not enabled, search is enabled by typing "/".> While you are finding typed text in the page, the Find Toolbar will automatically display at the bottom of the window to show information about what you've found. > > Can this bug be changed to reflect that, or should I file a separate bug? > > Sure, retitle and make it priority wishlist. > I think I did that.
