As I said in a previous mail Debian sarge already contains perl-base 5.8.4-5. So adding a dependency now is useless except if you upgrade bins without upgrading perl-base. If you use testing/unstable you should know the system has limitations and upgrade to solve them. Their will be no problem with sarge (the next stable release) so I do not want to change the package now.
