Well, it shouldn't!  Unless you specified a non standard value to
gnuserv-program or unless there is something terribly wrong.
Gnuserv.el should fire up the program set by gnuserv-program, which is
by default "gnuserv", so which is searched in $PATH.

Could you provide me more information on this gnuserv-program
variable?  Also, have you set the PATH to something special?
