I was confused but the fact that the libgcj dependency appeared in the same release as the fix for the lacking .jar file, combined with the apparent non-use of libgcj by any of the regular binaries or libs (I ran ldd on everything including msginit, but didn't look for dlopen() calls etc.). There are so many packages that bring in unneeded dependencies due to runaway dh_shlibs processing etc., that I assumed this was just another one of those cases and wanted to save you the grief with an "almost patch" report while the code was fresh in your memory.
