The reason that i filed the bug is that nautilus offers it for files remote filesystems (ssh, smb, etc) and those obviously don't work. And to make matters worse (imho), it doesn't provide the user feedback that it can't access the files because it can't handle the uri.. I don't feel strong either way, the main reason i filed is was that i thought it didn't handle uri (except file://) in general. So i'm okay if you just close the bug, in case you decide the current solution is the best.
