OK, thanks for following up with this information. I'm going to change this bug to wishlist, since even if it is not an outright flaw in the code or a mistake in packaging, it is still a very legitimate concern about the package. The real underlying bug, the lack of proper, complete URL handling, is known to upstream, though they're not very active these days...
