Yeah, I'm inclined to agree with you. I don't like the idea of disobeying protocols to comminicate with buggy clients or servers, generally. However, I'm also concerned about users, and people are inclined to see this as a bug in Polipo, and perhaps not use it as a result. Nonetheless, my Principle of Least Action[1] tells me to leave the bug as it is and patch with a backport, when that's available.
