Package: glade
Version: 0.6.4-11
Severity: minor
Glade generate source code with no copyright/license information,
which make the code theorically proprietary until developers are told
to add this information.
Glade should at least tell users that this information (copyright
holder, license) is a big deal if they want their code to be clearly
considered as free software.
As moderator of Savannah, I often noticed project with source code
created via glade in which this information is missing.
In the create files, a little text like the following is already
inserted.
/*
* main.c initial généré par Glade. Éditer ce fichier à votre
* convenance. Glade n'écrira plus dans ce fichier.
*/
Adding a text like below would be fine:
To release your project under the GPL, you should put
copyright notices and copying permission statements
at the beginning of every source-code file, and
include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL
(http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt).
Put it in a file named COPYING.
Please follow the advice of
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.
The GPL FAQ explain the reason behind these recommendations.
For example, there is an entry explaining why the GPL requires
including a copy of the GPL with every copy of the program:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude
This text is about the GPL but is accurate for a bunch of free
software licenses - and can be adapted that way.
Regards,

Hello,
I'm preparing the upload of glade 3.2 for unstable, which will take on
as the official Glade release in Debian. Code generation has finally
been removed from Glade, after being deprecated since Glade 2. Using
libglade is the recommended way of loading your glade-based UI.
Thanks,
