I believe this is because although dbmail_messages.deleted_flag has been set
to 1 the "status" column has not been set to 001/002/ or 003. This seems to
be a persisting bug.

I have a script which runs on a cron sched to fix the problem.
It is included in the "extra" folder of the dbmailadministrator package.
Also DbMailAdministrator(DBMA) has a GUI function "Update Delete Status"
which also corrects this issue and at the same time hunts down orphaned
messages.
