I found the temporary table on disk issue, the sum of my group by clause was around 512bytes, utf8 must have just put it over...
It only gave me a couple of seconds though, so I still have a 50% better performance between utf8 and latin1.. and ubuntu out performs solaris on utf8.. My next step is to compile from source... Jason -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
