Michael gave a good talk on Bare Metal programming, and mentioned that he's relying on the use of shared currently meaning volatile to do a lot of low level work in D, but wasn't sure if it was the correct approach. I am quite open to solutions, other than I don't think 'volatile' as a keyword would be something reintroduced to the language am afaid.
