I thought Newby was part of your name. Originally, the predominant philosophy
of the list members was pretty close to the dictionary definition of minarchist
that you gave. In the past few years, we seem to have added some folks who fall
into the "corporate conspiracy theorist" category. But I can deal with that,
since large corporations tend to become political animals.

There's also the "punk" part of cypherpunk, i.e., many of us have a subversive
side. It's a whole lot more fun watching the government crumble because it
can't collect taxes on encrypted transactions between anonymous parties than it
is participating in an ineffective and immoral political process.

It sounds like you found the right list, although the signal-to-noise ratio
hasn't been too high lately. I've been on and off the list since '94, and this
is the worst it's been, except maybe during the Vulis Reign of Terror.
