I thought there was a general consensus that this list was to be text-only, and that HTML and odd varieties of MIME just caused pain for people employing text-only mail clients. I find myself going to inet-one.com to read Choate's posts, so that HTML translation can be performed. It would suffice for most of them if he just posted the URL and the first paragraph of text. While they look nice with a browser, in text they are 20 pages of tags and click-through ads followed by the article in a less-than-neat and sometimes unreadable format. I think an argument can be made that criticizing the gartuitous multiplication of the list bandwidth is not censorship, since only people on high bandwidth shells have the luxury of deleting gigabytes with a keystroke, and not caring about the traffic. I'd hate to be trying to suck Jim Choates HTML bandwidth into a PC through a slow modem, from a provider that won't delete anything until it's downloaded.
