Use the "--full-time" option. Although the resulting format is distinct from either the "recent" or "old" date formats shown in the "-l" output format, it is uniform with no sensitivity to how far distant is the recorded file time.

On files from a previous year, the year of last modificatation is included in the output, but on files that were recently created, the year is not included. Is there a way to get ls to display the modification date in a consistent format, regardless of when the file was last modified? I don't really care what the format is, as long as it is consistent so that I can write some scripts to parse the output of ls easily.
