cc1: error: unrecognized command line option "-fstack-protector" This is a command line option which only GCC 4 understands. You only have GCC 3 installed. You need to install the gcc-4 package. You may also need to change the default gcc to gcc-4 using the "alternatives" tool (man alternatives), or force Perl to use GCC 4.
