A wealth of information, thank you Brian, that's very generous of you. I
knew about the CTHFB site but was stuck on how to search for packages there.

That I did not know.

If the cygwin release versions track the upstream, there's been a bit of
activity, 3.4 is the most recent release on github and CTHFB shows 2.18.3-1.

It will take me a little while to wrap my head around all this, but I am happy
the get supportive messages like yours and Marco's.
