right now it's only possible to build a 64 bit package using the native toolchain. Yaakov is working on a 32 bit cross toolchain, but this may take another couple of days. Anyway, the latest 64 bit Cygwin DLL seems to be stable enough to call it post-alpha or pre-beta or something like that. So I'd like to invite all of you maintainers to participate in building 64 bit packages, foremost those packages other packages rely upon, like libraries. If you have a 64 bit machine, please try the test release and see if you can build your packages. For the time being, just download ftp://cygwin.com/pub/cygwin/64bit/setup64.exe, install the test distro (what's already existing of it) and do your worst ;) Please send packages URLs to this list, as usual, just with a "64 bit" marker. As a sidenote, I would like to urge all of you which didn't already, to move your packaging mechanism to cygport based building. Especially using the latest incarnation of cygport, it's dead easy, even kind of fun, to create cygport description files and, subsequently, packages. Since cygport also runs on Linux, you could even cross build Cygwin packages without owning a Windows machine :) The cygwin package is built that way, for instance. Obviously I can't force you to switch to cygport. But using cygport for all packages has a big advantage: It's a unified and extremly well working way to create 32 and 64 bit packages. We're still mulling over setting up a build machine. If we have that, and if you create your packages via cygport, we could very easily automate packaging to a point equivalent to a Fedora build: You would only send the rpm... erm, cygport file and the distro package files would be automatically created for you. Rather than having to build and provide your own packages, you would just have to provide the instructions how to build these packages. Anyway, just asking. If you want to switch and need help, just ask here. Those already using cygport will help.
