I am trying to produce rollover effects using this method by Eric Meyer. <http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/javascript/2001/03/23/rollovers.html>
After setting it up exactly as given, I spent way too much time trying to figure out why no background image displays at all, much less the rollover effect. Finally, I enclosed the a element in a div with the id and it works. But, I have no idea why I can't simply put the id on the a element as shown. Can someone help me understand why it only works inside a div?
