I guessed that this could be the reason, but I hoped that there would be
a more "acceptable" one. This is exactly the form of progress I don't
like to see in Linux, ie protecting the user from himself by taking away
options. But so it goes...

Agreed, and one could argue that 800x600 or even lower screens are only
used by a very small fraction of the userbase. Most people probably
won't even notice that they can't drag windows upwards off screen.

Okay, I won't complain anymore. Thanks for the explanation. I'll see
whether I can change the thing in the sources.
