I've gotten DRI working now, however the locking on logout is a persistant problem.
Since I am running an AMD Athlon 1700+ I've tried the recommendation of adding
mem=nopentium to my append in lilo.conf, but still no-go. The system freezes when
the fb is flushed and turned off to begin a reset of kdm. At this point I have to
MANUALLY issue the following commands from virtual console to logout:
[[EMAIL PROTECTED] /root]# kdeinit_shutdown; dcopserver_shutdown; artsshell -q
terminate; /etc/init.d/dm restart
My hardware profile is as follows:

I have a brand new cooker machine installed with a ATI A-I-W Radeon 7500 (Radeon
QW), unfortunately I cannot use 3D support for the card at this time due to a severe
lock-up of the system that occurs when DRI is activated. The system is completely up
to date except for the kernel (2.4.19-16mdk) When X11 is started with DRI turned on it
not only hangs, the screen seems to artifact really badly. It hangs so badly that I
have
to hard reboot the system. Any help would be appreciated.
