Two possible approaches to fix the findbug error:

Date endTime = tgt.getEndTime();
if (tgt != null && endTime != null && !tgt.isDestroyed()) {
tgtEndTime = endTime.getTime();
} else {
tgtEndTime = now;
}

or

try {
Date endTime = tgt.getEndTime();
tgtEndTime = endTime.getTime();
} catch (NullPointerException npe) {
LOG.warn("NPE thrown while getting KerberosTicket endTime. The "

Both will work equally well.
