Argh, normally I can understand poorly written English from Chinese people
(that appears to have been made with some sort of automated software - it is
really Chinese<->English word-by-word with Chinese grammar) better if it didn't
have Werner's reply in the middle.

I still don't understand item (a). Items (b), (c), (d) just means spaces need
to be reserved for missing chinese glyph, missing pinyin, and spaces need to be
reserved on either side of over-long pinyin. Those are not difficult to
achieve. My LaTeX-fu is really rusty, not having used it much for years, but I
think those requirements can be achieved with some zero-width \rule , and not
really CJK-specific. The Leslie Lamport LaTeX book has a section on using
zero-width \rule's to reserve space.

A little pet grumble: while opinion differs, and it seems to be a popular
practice in China and many non-English-native countries, I have always told
people and some of my students, that unless your name's trans-literation is
unpronouncable (e.g. anything with ts, tz, ng, etc), you should only adopt
Christian name when your command of English is of a sufficient standard.
Otherwise it is a joke. Having a Christian name does not automatically improve
your English. *Not* using automatic translation software does.
