Buying a product which is patent licenced does not extend you any rights whatsoever to make use of the patented methods in another context.
In addition, someone referred to countries where there might be no valid patents on G.729. Would anyone like to point one out? I don't know of any. Callweaver, Freeswitch, and any other telephony code that wants to be taken seriously *must* be able to use a legal G.729 codec, and we need to address that in some way. We hope we can collaborate with the Freeswitch folk on this. There are no problems with patents and GPL code, as we will run the codecs as a separate task.
