A good question. Like everybody else that creates a new filter, I didn't create the main filter file myself but copied it from another filter. That would make the previous copyright holder still keep their copyright. And then I tore out everything except the framework so that very little was left. I guess I just cannot answer the question. As I wrote on irc, I agree in principle, but the init() function where the mimetype file is written is called directly from the constructor. This makes it impossible to use a function unless you make it static so you can call it before any object is created.
