Star is from 1982 - much older than GNU tar ;-)

I have never seen any coredump with star. It it does for you, this is most 
likely a 
result from a libc problem on Suse, but if you don't report your problem, 
nobody can help you.

Are you running a self compiled star from the latest sources?

"tar" also has ACL support inside since a long time but tar only compiles on 
UNIX.

Note that this is _not_ a mailing List for "tar" but one for "gtar"
