AFAIK the issues with Fedora/RHEL patch were summarized in http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2006-08/msg00005.html . Most of them were already addressed - we do plan to submit the xattrs patch for upstream inclusion consideration again it will have propper test coverage. As the main limitation at the moment I see the fact that there is no test coverage of selinux/xattr/acl support - which recently resulted in complete breakage of this support in Fedora 15/16 (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=717684 for details). Basic test coverage is in todo list, however I don't have any ETA for this. Greetings, Ondrej Vasik
