Hey Jan!
The Hurd is definitely not abandoned! I am sort of shooting from the hip, because I do not know all of the answers, but here is my best knowledge of the current state of affairs. The Hurd is actively maintained (largely by Samuel), and others are helping tweak things. We have a few developers tweaking things. I should probably write another QOTH to refresh myself of the current state of affairs. I believe that the darnassus.screen.net/~hurd-web is loading from the latest website commits. So it looks more recent. The official website https://www.gnu.org/software/hurd, is using SVN. Someone needs to manually update the live website, which I suppose becomes a bit tedious. I believe that Guix System manages their own site, which is why they do not suffer from this problem. I agree with you! I think that the GNU/Hurd site could use some uplifting! You would be a great help if you could make the website work on mobile devices! It may be a significant project migrating the current site to a different platform (other than ikiwiki), but I have not fully researched this myself. Thanks, Joshua P.S. Also, we get few contributions. Most of the web site and hurd development happens on bug-hurd@gnu.org for now. -- Joshua Branson Sent from Emacs and Gnus
