I wonder if it is worth making git-merge-changelog it's own package. It is also packaged in FreeBSD and Fedora [1][2]. I'll have a look at updating the FreeBSD one. But unfortunately I do not know how how the Fedora packaging process works so I cannot help there (ironic since I use it much more than FreeBSD). I submitted a bug report for the maintainer though [3].
