The problems with the screensaver -- at least on Windows and at least
several years ago -- is that it uses a huge number of CPU cycles and after a
few minutes it seems repetitive and boring. So, while the screensaver is
great for demos at schools and computer conferences, the kinds of people
that develop a long-term interest in SETI@Home and BOINC soon become
desperate for a way to get rid of it.

Hence, if you get it working on Linux, you should provide an easy way to
turn it off because that is the first control most people will be looking
for. It really did almost double the time it takes to process a work unit.
