I have a fairly early iMac with the Core 2 Duo processor, and it also reports 
both SSE3 and SSSE3.  But the very first Intel Macs were Intel Core Duo 
(without the 2, I believe) and were not 64-bit capable.  So I don't know 
whether they had SSE3.
