Basically, you cannot have different IP adresses on a same network. The
traffic goes through eth0 while wlan0 is inhibited.

I'm sure you can find on the web solutions to push the wireless traffic
through ethernet. A better solution is to bind both interfaces in one
bond0 interface so that the traffic switches to wireless when you disconnect
the cable. There are many linux bonding howto's around.

Well, I have already tried a bunch of bonding "how-to's", but I have not
been able to make any of them work with LFS.

But I have build KDE before, and at that time the wpa_supplicant interface
was working, I could scan for AP's etc. Part of the "mission" is to be able
to use my laptop in other locations, where I will have to connect to a
wireless network. I thought that was exactly what wpa_supplicant was for ? I
don't want to connect through both interfaces at the same time - it is
absolutely OK for me if I could just connect through the wireless network,
and even not have my eth0 connected.

So my main goal right now is to make wpa_supplicant work.
