I have already looked at KF5, it does not look too hard, but the QT5
download I need looks like 24h 45m 3s on my end at the moment.
Can you go to the library and download to a thumb drive?
To add on to the discussion, note that KF5 requires NetworkManager. We will
probably have to update to it sometime soon, but at a quick glance, it
looks like there is nothing that requires systemd. We should be able to get
it to work without it. A large majority of the packages are the frameworks,
which look like they can be installed by one giant script, and it seems
that they are all updated at once.
I did see that, but I need to study it more.
I recommend installing it in /opt/kde5 if you have KDE4 installed though,
and of course we need to realize that KDM is removed in KDE5.
Yes, I intended to install in /opt. It's so much easier to keep it together
rather than merging into /usr.
