Bruce, Can I take the ticket and try updating to 15.04.0, or do you want to do that? I have already looked at KF5, it does not look too hard, but the QT5 download I need looks like 24h 45m 3s on my end at the moment.
To add on to the discussion, note that KF5 requires NetworkManager. We will probably have to update to it sometime soon, but at a quick glance, it looks like there is nothing that requires systemd. We should be able to get it to work without it. A large majority of the packages are the frameworks, which look like they can be installed by one giant script, and it seems that they are all updated at once. I recommend installing it in /opt/kde5 if you have KDE4 installed though, and of course we need to realize that KDM is removed in KDE5. Douglas R. Reno
