I know nothing about vde, and it probably has nothing to do with
your problem, but I'll offer this just-in-case :
Your host is running 3.19.0 or earlier ? When my host was running
4.0-rc{1,2} the e1000 driver in qemu could not get an ip address,
with an error message when dhclient tried to start. That was fixed
in 4.0-rc3.
