It is not necessary.

Yes, you don't need to do anything about them. I use Texlive 2012. If you want 
to see where they are installed, you may use the help menu and search for 
"hidden files." There are many other ways to search for them, for instance with 
a text editor like TextMate.

No need to do anything. You may not need to use XeLaTeX, pdflatex may be fine 
for your needs. I need it because of my use of right to left languages.
